Recently, I have become obsessed with my Google Home. It is as if I can’t watch TV without my new little friend next to me. I use it to check facts or fake news, ask questions about people on TV or just be lazy and ask what time it is without having to turn around and look at the clock – yup I just admitted that.
In the classroom, I am always wishing I could stop and say “Okay Google, what was the first capital of the USA?” Or ask some other questions we don’t have time to look up on the internet – fun questions kids like to ask.. To me this seems the perfect way to inspire curiosity in the classroom. So we are getting one for Monday!
Here are some kids having fun with Google Home as an example of how fun it can be.
I need your help to think of more ways then the ones listed below to use Google Home in the Classroom. Please tweet to me @HollyClarkEdu and use hashtag #GoogleHomeEdu
Obvious ways to use Google Home in the Classroom:
- Translate words
- Quickly define words
- Ask questions
- Solve simple math equations
- Translate Fahrenheit to Celsius to help kids stay informed about the temperature used by everyone else except the US.
New from my PLN
- Read audio books aloud from Katie Degregorio
Then I ran across these two great new ways to combine Google Home with the classroom.
This one allows you to code (without code) interactive stories.
This one allows you to add beats, so when students read a story or poem Google Home can play some beats in the background.
Google Home can be a fun way to inspire curiosity and learn about Machine Learning or AI in the classroom. Help me curate some ways!
